I bought an OMEN by HP Laptop 15-dc0xxx and the previous owner reset and installed Windows 11. When I unplug it it shuts off and the battery says 100%. What could be the problem and how to fix it. I have disabled the battery and restarted it but not the driver because I thought it would shut down if I did.

Hi @voneil,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your OMEN laptop is experiencing a battery issue where it reports 100% charge but doesn’t actually hold any power when unplugged. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem.
Check Battery Health:
- Go to the Windows search bar and type "cmd" to open Command Prompt. Run it as an administrator.
- Enter the command: powercfg /batteryreport
- This will generate a battery report, typically saved in your user folder. Check the report for battery health details.
Update Battery Drivers:
- Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select it).
- Expand the "Batteries" section.
- Right-click on "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and select "Update driver."
- Restart your laptop after updating.
Perform a Battery Calibration:
- Fully charge your laptop to 100%.
- Unplug it and let it run until it shuts down due to low battery.
- Leave it off for a few hours, then plug it back in and charge it to 100% again without interruptions.
Check Power Options:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options and ensure your settings are optimized for performance.
- Click on "Change plan settings" for your current plan, then "Change advanced power settings." Make sure settings related to the battery are appropriate.
Inspect the Battery Physically:
- If you’re comfortable, check if the battery is seated properly. If it’s removable, try reseating it. If it’s not, ensure there’s no visible damage or swelling.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
