OMEN laptop overheating issues (high idle temperatures)

HP Recommended
OMEN by HP Laptop 15-dc1xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey,

I've been having overheating problems with my laptop and after looking up several troubleshooting threads, I have come to realize that my idle temperatures are incredibly high. My CPU idles at around 80C, (with about 1% CPU utilization) and my GPU rests at about 72C, which seem a lot higher than what I've seen people say is the normal operating temperature.

The fan is always blowing, and after cleaning out the vents and fans (although not thoroughly and I might try this step again) it doesn't seem to be obviously choked up with dust.

The computer doesn't seem to be using that much cpu or gpu power at all so I doubt if that is the answer.

Thanks in advance for the help!

@DoctorMajor

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is overheating at low CPU usage.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

If you continue facing the issue, then run a system test on the computer following the steps in the below article and this will help us determine whether it is a hardware or a software related issue.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
