Hello fellow HP users,

occasionally my laptop keeps stuttering on browser (Chrome). By minimizing and opening the browser again, everything seems to work fine again. Until it freezes again.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Using a HP Omen transcend 14 (2024)

Hi @Spardaa,

I understand your HP Omen Transcend 14 occasionally stutters or freezes while browsing on Chrome. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

a. Update Graphics & System Drivers

Open HP Support AssistantUpdates tab → install all available updates.

Go to Device Manager → Display adapters → right-click your GPU (Intel/NVIDIA) → Update driver.

You can also visit the Intel or NVIDIA website to download the latest graphics drivers directly.

b. Check Chrome Hardware Acceleration

Open Chrome → SettingsSystem.

Toggle “Use hardware acceleration when available” off.

Restart Chrome and check if the issue persists.

c. Power Settings Adjustment

Go to Control Panel → Power Options → select High Performance or HP Optimized.

Click Change plan settings → Change advanced power settings → Processor power management → Minimum processor state → Set to 100%.

This prevents CPU throttling that may cause stutters.

d. Check for Background Processes

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.

Check for high CPU, memory, or disk usage.

Close or disable unnecessary apps or startup programs that may be consuming resources.

e. Clear Browser Cache and Extensions

In Chrome, go to Settings → Privacy and Security → Clear browsing data.

Remove unused extensions as some can cause lags.

f. Update BIOS & Firmware

Open HP Support Assistant → Device → Updates and check for BIOS or firmware updates.

BIOS updates for the Omen Transcend 14 include improvements for thermal and GPU performance, which can reduce browser stutter.

I hope this helps.
