Omen 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So I haven't had this Laptop for very long, only about a year or so, and haven't been very rough with it either. But for some reason three of the keys simply refuse to work.

The keys in question are h, j, and caps lock.

In order to type properly, I'm using the virtual keyboard to fill in the missing letters.

I don't know what is causing this issue. Today is the first day it's been acting like this. I tried rebooting, uninstalling the devices via device manager, updating my drivers, and running the diagnostic tool.

Strangely, the keys suddenly started working again while I was trying to fix it, only to promptly stop working once more.  I wasn't doing anything unusual when this issue first occurred.  I was just on Discord and noticed my keys not working for some reason.

There plenty of posts on keyboard-issue like this. From what i understand it's a hardware-problem. My Omen is under warranty

and at this moment it's being shipped of to the repair-shop.

I was hoping to get some insight into the issue. In my case the keys will work for a while then not work for a while. the issue was sudden and as far as I can see the keys don't seem damaged at all, and I haven't been rough on the keys at all, so if there is a hardware issue it's likely with the circuits or something.

Strangely, when I turn on caps lock using the virtual keyboard the capslock light will still turn on even when the actual capslock key isn't working.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

I understand that your HP notebook Keyboard keys are not working correctly. I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.
Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to complete a functional test of the keyboard and identify any problems with the hardware.

  1. Download the latest version of HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.

  2. In Windows, search for and right-click HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows, and then select Run as administrator.

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows as an administrator

  3. Click Component Tests, click Input Devices, and then select the Keyboard Test.

    Running the Keyboard Test

  4. Click Run once to begin the test.

The test ends when you complete the tasks or after 3 minutes.

For more information about using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows, go to HP PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures.

I've already done as you've suggested, but the diagnostic program wasn't able to help me solve my issue. I'm not even sure if this is actually a hardware or software issue, I just know they keyboard isn't working, which is something I already knew before trying the diagnostic.

Thank you for posting back.

The last thing I can suggest trying to restore a computer back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
