I wonder HP did any recalls about this problem or are they helpful about this problem.I live in Turkey and it seems to hp is not covering the problems the servises just unplugs the sensor and gives it back.At this conditions ı am not confident to give my laptop to offical hp sevices.

Hi @erkineris

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how disappointing it feels when a hardware issue appears just after the warranty period ends, especially on a high‑performance system like your HP OMEN 16.

Thank you for already checking with local service providers—it shows you’ve been proactive in trying to resolve this.

Let’s go through what you can do to manage the hall sensor concern and keep your laptop running reliably.

Points to consider

  • No recall information: There are no official recalls listed for the HP OMEN 16 series regarding hall sensors.
  • Service practices: Local service centers may choose to disable the sensor if it malfunctions, but this is not the only approach.

Steps you can take

Check for BIOS and firmware updates

  • Go to the HP support page for your OMEN 16 model.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS and firmware updates, as these can sometimes improve sensor behavior.
  • HP OMEN 16 driver and software page: HP OMEN 16 Drivers & Downloads

Run hardware diagnostics

  • On Windows, press F2 during startup to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run a System Test and then a Component Test focusing on sensors and input devices.
  • This helps confirm whether the hall sensor is the source of the issue or if another component is involved.

Use the HP App for monitoring

  • Open the HP App on Windows.
  • Check under Device Support > Troubleshooting for any sensor‑related logs or alerts.
  • This can provide more clarity on whether the sensor is intermittently failing or consistently disabled.

Practical workaround

  • If the sensor is disabled, you can continue using the laptop normally. The hall sensor primarily controls lid detection and sleep/wake functions.
  • You can manually manage sleep and power states through Windows Settings > Power & Sleep to ensure smooth operation.

Your OMEN 16 remains fully usable even if the hall sensor is bypassed, and keeping BIOS/firmware updated plus running diagnostics will help maintain stability. Since you’re cautious about service centers, managing power settings manually and monitoring through the HP App is a safe way forward.

Hi,

I'm having trouble opening my laptop. It seems like the Hall sensor is incorrectly detecting that the screen is closed (off position) all the time. Because of this, the power button isn't responding, and the machine won't get power.

Do you have any recommendations or solutions that could fix this problem?

Thank you
