OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-db0000 (9A9V8AV)

Hey, I have an Omen 17.3 laptop and win11. My keyboard backlight keeps resetting the color to white whenever I shutdown and turn it back on. The only way to see the backlight color that I've picked again is to wait for a minute in the windows lock screen for everything to load or in case I don't, I have to run Omen gaming hub for the color to show. I know someone who has the same laptop and is having the same issue. Bios, windows11, omen gaming hub and drivers are all up to date. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi @Maro75,

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

I understand how important it is to have consistent lighting settings, and I appreciate your efforts in keeping your BIOS, drivers, and OMEN Gaming Hub up to date.

Based on your description, it appears that the keyboard backlight resets to white upon shutdown and requires either a delay at the lock screen or manual intervention via the OMEN Gaming Hub to restore the desired color.

To address this, please follow the steps below:

Verify Keyboard Lighting Settings in OMEN Gaming Hub

  • Launch the OMEN Gaming Hub application.

  • Navigate to the Lighting section.

  • Ensure that the desired color and lighting effect are selected.

  • Apply the settings and exit the application.

  • Restart your laptop to check if the settings persist.

Check BIOS Settings for Keyboard Lighting

  • Restart your laptop and press the ESC key repeatedly to enter the Startup Menu.

  • Select F10 to enter the BIOS setup.

  • Navigate to the Advanced tab.

  • Select Built-In Device Options.

  • Ensure that Keyboard Backlight is enabled.

  • Save changes and exit the BIOS.

Perform a Clean Boot

A clean boot can help identify if background applications are interfering with the keyboard lighting settings.

  • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.

  • In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab.

  • Check Hide all Microsoft services.

  • Click Disable all.

  • Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.

  • Disable all startup items.

  • Close Task Manager and click OK in the System Configuration window.

  • Restart your laptop.

  • Check if the keyboard lighting settings persist after a restart.

Reinstall OMEN Gaming Hub

A fresh installation of the OMEN Gaming Hub can resolve any software-related issues.

  • Press Windows + X and select Apps and Features.

  • Locate OMEN Gaming Hub in the list and select Uninstall.

  • Restart your laptop.

  • Download the latest version of OMEN Gaming Hub from the official HP website.

  • Install the application and configure your keyboard lighting settings.

  • Restart your laptop to check if the settings persist.

Update System Firmware and Drivers

Ensure that your system firmware and drivers are up to date.

  • Visit the HP Support website.

  • Enter your laptop's model number (17-db0000) and check for the latest BIOS and driver updates.

  • Download and install any available updates.

  • Restart your laptop to apply the updates.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved, and if you feel this reply was helpful, click “Yes”.
