OMEN Laptop - 15-en0013dx
Microsoft Windows 11

The left speaker has started making random static noises, even when the volume is turned off. The static sputtering is random and plays during sound too.

Hi @Aly045,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Omen 15 laptop's left speaker is making random static noises even when the volume is turned off or during sound playback, there are several potential reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the problem.

  • Update Audio Drivers: Ensure that your audio drivers are up-to-date. You can do this by going to the official HP support website, locating your laptop model, and downloading the latest audio drivers.
  • Check for Software Issues: Close all applications and processes that might be using the audio system. Sometimes, conflicts between different software or background processes can cause audio issues.
  • Restart Your Laptop: A simple restart can sometimes resolve temporary glitches or conflicts. Shut down your laptop, wait for a few seconds, and then restart it.
  • Run Windows Troubleshooter: Use the built-in Windows troubleshooter to identify and fix any audio-related problems. Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray, select "Troubleshoot sound problems," and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Inspect Audio Settings: Check the audio settings in the Control Panel or the Windows Settings app. Ensure that the correct audio output device is selected and that the volume levels are appropriate.
  • Test with External Speakers or Headphones: Connect external speakers or headphones to your laptop and check if the static noise persists. This will help determine if the issue is with the laptop's internal speakers or if it's a broader audio system problem.
  • Hardware Inspection: If the issue persists, there may be a hardware problem with the left speaker.
  • Check for Loose Connections: Ensure that there are no loose connections or damaged cables. If your laptop has removable speakers, check if they are securely connected.
  • System Restore: If the issue started recently, consider using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state when the audio was working correctly.
  • Update BIOS: Ensure that your laptop's BIOS is up-to-date. Visit the HP support website for your specific model and check if there are any BIOS updates available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
