Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, As of the past week or 2 my laptop has been having serious performance issues. When typing the input speed seems to be quite delayed, this is even more pronounced when using google chrome or microsoft edge. I can type something as simple has "Laptop is typing slow" and it'll take upwards of 20-30 seconds to eventually fill out in the search bar. I have run speed checks and the internet speed is fine as my phone and other devices are unaffected. Programs as a whole also seem to be delayed. I have checked alot of my drivers and they're up to date with the newest software. I have enabled 'Performance' in my power mode on the Omen Gaming Hub.

The only thing that seems to help is restarting my laptop. After every restart it seems as if everything goes back to normal. The keyboard works fine in search browsers, the fans and stuff run up fine and theres no lag at all across any of the applications i use.

With that said, the fans don't seem to speed up as much when i'm gaming. I tried to adjust the settings in the omen hub but it doesn't seem to do a great deal. But like mentioned before, when i restart my laptop the fans run up higher and the CPU runs a little warmer which the laptop seems to prefer.

Hi @JimmyPasc1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how frustrating it can feel when your laptop doesn’t respond as quickly as it used to. Let's try a few steps, this will help to try and resolve the issue.

1. Restart Your Laptop

A simple restart can often speed up your laptop by:

  • Clearing temporary files
  • Freeing up RAM
  • Terminating background processes
  • Refreshing system resources

2. Check and Upgrade RAM

To find out how much RAM you have:

  1. Press the Windows + X keys on your keyboard
  2. Select “Task Manager”
  3. Click the “Performance” tab
  4. Select “Memory”

If you have less than 8GB of RAM, consider a RAM upgrade kit to improve performance.

3. Free Up Hard Drive Space

When your hard drive is nearly full, your laptop’s performance suffers. Here’s how to free up space:

  1. Press the Windows key + E to open File Explorer
  2. Right-click your C: drive
  3. Select “Properties” to check available space
  4. Use Disk Cleanup to remove unnecessary files:
  • Temporary files
  • Downloaded program files
  • Recycle Bin contents
  • Windows update files

4. Disable Startup Programs

Prevent unnecessary programs from launching at startup:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
  2. Click the “Startup” tab
  3. Disable programs you don’t need to start automatically
  4. Restart your laptop

5. Update Your Operating System

Keep your system current:

  1. Go to Settings > Windows Update
  2. Check for updates
  3. Install all available updates
  4. Restart your laptop when prompted

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
