Omen 17t-w200
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an issue with my Omen laptop. It’s not turning on. The only thing I get is the charge light when I plug it in - and it slowly blinks. I’ve had this happen randomly numerous times since I’ve gotten this laptop, and the ol’ “Unplug laptop, hold the power button for 25 seconds, plug it back in and turn it on,” has been working... up until now (please note, my laptop has an internal battery that can’t be disconnected easily). I had previously contacted HP support when my laptop was under warranty, the first time it happened when it wouldn’t turn on the next day, and they suggested the whole hold-the-power-button solution, but my warranty just expired last month.

What can I do to possibly get my laptop to turn on? Or, any reccomendations for a non-HP gaming laptop?

HEllo @WelderEric

How many times does the charging light blink? Is it steady once per second or does it have 3 short blinks then waits (for example)?

Let me know what is does. Its usually an error code.

It’s constant on for 5 seconds, off for 1.

To clarify, its the charging light next to the power cord, not the caps light or power button light, correct?

HP does not have a code list for that one.

I can ask around HP and see what I come up with.

In the mean time, all I can offer is to take the laptop appart and disconnect the battery and see if it will boot with just the power cord only.

I Know its hard to get into. It is what it is.

Otherwise, like you said, you may want to just get another one.

Let me know what you decide.

Correct, it is the light by the power cord. I already opened up the case and disconnected the battery and tried to boot on just the power cord prior to my first post. Hey, the warranty’s up so why not. Also, even with the battery disconnected, the light by the power cord follows that same on 5 off 1 pattern.

OK thanks. Sounds like the motherboard is got something failing on it then.

If that is the case, the laptop is toast. Only other thing you could do is have a specialist physically look at it.

So, I had a specialist (myself) look at it. (If it's already toast, I can't possibly make it worse, right? Fixed many things with that in mind) I took apart my laptop and disconnected everything from the motherboard. I even replaced the coin cell battery on the motherboard - a CR2032 that I replace from my car's key remote about once a year so this one might not be good, and I always keep one or two on hand. Plus, I knew that pulling out that battery would reset the BIOS (or whatever they're calling it these days), if a corrupted BIOS was causing issues. It was very clean, no dust inside, and no signs of overheating. I re-connected everything, made sure all connections were properly seated, and pressed the power button. It turned on! Came up with a "corrupt CMOS CHKSUM" so it would reset the CMOS and reboot, and it did, and now here I am with a working laptop - for now.

Also, the light on the "mute sound" button didn't come on shortly before it stopped turning on, but now it does. Loose connection somewhere, maybe?

Thanks for the assistance, Photoray002. I appreciate it.

Being a specialist yourself came in handy. Most who come here are not of course.

Glad you got it working. Thanks for the update.
