15-5010tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

First time post!

I've tried googling and calling hp support to no availalbe.. only other option is to ask other users with similar system, to determin if it's the norm or an issue with my laptop.

I've got a Hp Omen 15-501tx, i have a cooling (fan) pad connected via usb.

I'm having issues with it still powering cooling fan even though laptop has been shut down (not sleep or hibernate).

I have performed the following troubleshooting from various google searches...

1. Turn off fast boot in power settings

2. Device manager > usb hub > power > check allow the computer to turn off this device to save power

3. F10 bios > disable usb charge/power

I have also performed system diagnotic/checks and there are no issues with any components reported.

In my user manual it states the following;

USB 3.0 ports (4) Support HP USB Boost (Sleep and Charge) on all four USB 3.0 ports

Yes i can unplug from power source but i use my laptop as main desktop replacement so my switch is hidden behind my desk, which isn't easily accessible.

I could also unplug cooling pad physically but that's just annoying.

I'm sure the power to usb, can be disabled somehow.. even the bios has that options but disabling doesn't affect.

Is this the norm or is there an issue with my laptop/motherboard/power?

Anyone with the same or similar system, if you could check/help it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

@istarscream, welcome to the forum.

You have done an excellent job of troubleshooting.  The only suggest that I can make is, contact the manufacturer's (cooling (fan) pad) Tech Support to see if they can tell you why their product still runs when the laptop is turned off.  They are the experts on their products and should be able to help you.

Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Thanks for the reply, it's not the cooling pad, I have two other Hp laptops and the cooling pad doesn't work when laptop is off on both.

If I plug other devices into the Omen there is power eg. Phone it will charge when laptop off.

I need to figure out if this is a standard function of the omen that can't be turned off? Or if it can be turned off but my laptop has something faulty.
