OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-en1000 (2L1F2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi there, two days ago my laptop decided to freeze randomly on me. After the freeze, it got stuck on a black screen before hitting any of the splash screens, I have managed to get into it twice after many failed attempts of booting it, on these two successful boots, it randomly froze again a few hours later and proceeded to blackscreen me before posting etc. It's currently not advancing past this black screen at all. I have tried plugging in an external hdmi to no avail, I've also tried hold windows key and B whilst booting with 0 success, the backlight for the screen doesn't even come on. I can hear fans spinning etc. Please advise

Hi @dead-omen,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

It sounds like your OMEN 15.6 15.6-inch gaming Laptop PC 15-En1000 is experiencing serious hardware or firmware issues. Since you've already tried some common troubleshooting steps, here are a few more advanced steps to help diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

Power Reset:

  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try to power on the laptop.

RAM Reseating:

  • If you are comfortable doing so, open the back panel of your laptop.
  • Locate the RAM modules and carefully reseat them by removing and reinserting them.
  • Ensure they are properly seated in their slots.

Check for Loose Connections:

  • While the back panel is open, check all internal connections, particularly those related to the display and storage devices.
  • Ensure all cables and connectors are firmly attached.

BIOS Reset/CMOS Battery:

  • Locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard (a small, round, silver battery).
  • Carefully remove the CMOS battery for about 5 minutes and then reinsert it. This will reset the BIOS settings.

External Monitor:

  • Since you've already tried this, ensure you use the correct function key (usually Fn + one of the F-keys) to switch to the external display.
  • Verify the external monitor works with another device to rule out monitor issues.

BIOS Recovery Using Key Press Combination:

  • Plug in the power adapter.
  • Hold down the Windows key and the B key, and then press the power button for 2-3 seconds.
  • Release the power button but continue holding the Windows and B keys until you hear beeps or see a BIOS recovery screen.

Please find the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @dead-omen,

Please find the next set of steps below.

Advanced Troubleshooting

Create a BIOS Recovery USB Drive:

  • Download the latest BIOS for your laptop model from the HP support website.
  • Create a BIOS recovery USB drive following HP's instructions.
  • Insert the USB drive into your laptop and attempt to boot from it.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • If you manage to get the laptop to start again, try booting into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists.
  • In Windows, hold Shift and select Restart from the power menu to access advanced startup options and choose Safe Mode.

Run Hardware Diagnostics:

  • If you can access the BIOS, run any available hardware diagnostics to check for hardware issues.
  • HP laptops often have built-in diagnostics accessible by pressing F2 during startup.

If none of the above steps work, The issue could be related to a failing component, such as the motherboard, GPU, or display.

Reach out to HP phone Support for further assistance and possible repair options.
