OMEN Laptop - 15-en0023dx

I just attempted to plug in my laptop, but I smelled some burning when I did so. The laptop will not turn on even though it was fine maybe two days ago. I am currently in Japan. Can anyone please give me advice as to what I should do?

Hi @DHernandez87,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The burning smell you noticed when plugging in your OMEN Laptop - 15 suggests that there may have been an electrical issue or a hardware failure, potentially involving the power supply, motherboard, or other internal components. Here’s what you can do.

Steps to Diagnose and Potentially Resolve

Inspect the Charger and Port

  • Check if the charger or the laptop’s charging port is discolored, deformed, or smells burnt. This could help identify where the issue lies.

Check for External Damage

  • Inspect the laptop for signs of physical damage, such as burn marks or melted plastic near the charging port.

Attempt a Power Reset

  • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery if it's removable.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect only the charger (without the battery, if possible) and try turning the laptop on.

Verify Power Source

  • Ensure the wall socket is functioning properly by testing it with another device.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you, Alden4, but I am afraid that I saw no visible signs of damage. The wall socket itself works fine. The computer will not charge when plugged in, and now it is dead.

I am currently in Japan. An HP store representative said that I needed to contact an American representative because the computer is American. A repair man said that he could not work on American models. A friend said that the internal fan looks dusty, and it should be cleaned. I would greatly appreciate any feedback as to what I should do next.

Best regards,

Diego Hernandez
