Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution
HP Recommended

Battery is not charging while the computer is on. This is a gaming laptop which means the laptop needs to be charged frequently and sometimes in game. My warranty expired on 1/4/25 and the battery became faulty on 1/9/25.  Why would I have to pay for a new battery on a $1400 computer that was exactly 1 year and 5 days old when the issue started? HP is scamming customers out of their money because by the looks of it this is a known issue and hp is aware of it. I was advised I would have to spend $300-$600 to replace the battery. So we’re talking about spending almost $1700-$2000  on a computer that was faulty when it left the manufacturer.

@WhateverAja,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query.

I completely understand how frustrating this situation is, and I can imagine how disappointed you must feel after spending so much on your laptop and then having a battery issue so soon after the warranty expired. It’s tough when something like this happens, especially when you rely on your laptop for gaming and everyday use. 😞

It’s true that laptops, especially gaming ones, are meant to withstand heavy use and last longer, but unfortunately, batteries can sometimes fail even under normal usage. A lot of people face battery issues with their devices over time due to factors like charging cycles, temperature, and power management.

I know it feels like an unfair situation, and I absolutely get your frustration. I can assure you that this is not something HP intends to overlook, but these issues can sometimes be out of our control depending on the usage.

To better assist you, could you please provide the exact model details and the serial number of your laptop? You can send that information via a private message, and I’ll make sure to look into your case further.

I truly hope you’re able to find a solution that works for you, and please know that your feedback is valuable. If there’s anything else you’d like to discuss or if you have questions, feel free to reach out. I’m here to help as much as I can. 💙

Take care and have a good day.
