Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution

I had my display replaced by HP and afterwards the screen turned on and off. Sometimes it works for a short while but right now it's all black. I had some colleagues have a look at my device and according to them it's an issue on the mainbord with the videocard.

Hi @Gabriel1975,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Omen laptop is experiencing issues with the display turning on and off after a screen replacement, it could potentially be related to the graphics card or motherboard. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and possibly diagnose the issue.

Check Display Connections:

  • Ensure that all internal display connections are secure. If the display was recently replaced, it's possible that cables may not be fully seated.

External Monitor Test:

  • Connect your HP Omen to an external monitor via HDMI or another compatible video output. If the external display works fine, the issue may be with the laptop's internal display connections or the replacement screen itself.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect all peripherals and the power adapter from the laptop.
  • Turn off the laptop, remove the battery (if removable), and press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to reset.
  • Reattach the power and start the laptop.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Access the Device Manager and ensure your graphics drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support Website.

BIOS Update:

  • Check if there is an available BIOS update for your model on the HP Support site, as this might resolve compatibility issues with hardware changes.

Check Power Settings:

  • Sometimes power-saving settings can cause screen issues. Go to Power & Sleep settings, check advanced options, and ensure the settings are correct.

Factory Reset (as a last resort):

  • If you have exhausted other options, a factory reset might resolve software conflicts causing the issue. Ensure to back up your data before proceeding.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Raj,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunatley I have tried all steps below with no result. I also had my laptop checked by a repair centre and they came to the conclusion that it's probably a issue with the mainbord. Problems started after I have my display replaced by HP. In the beginning it happened occasionally but now the display hardly works anymore.

What are the options? The warranty has now expired a couple of months. Pretty unsatisfied for an expensive machine.
