Hi @Brena7,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding PC overheating!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try the following steps:
Check the thermal paste application. If too much or too little paste was used, it can cause poor heat transfer. Try reapplying a small, even amount of high-quality thermal paste, like Arctic MX-4 or Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.
Verify the heatsink and cooling system. Ensure the heatsink is properly seated and screwed down evenly. Check if the heat pipes are in good condition and making full contact. Clean the fans and vents to ensure proper airflow.
Adjust power settings and performance mode. When plugged in, your laptop may switch to high-performance mode, increasing power and heat. Try switching to Balanced Mode in Control Panel > Power Options > Select Balanced. Under Advanced Settings, lower the Processor Maximum State to 99% to prevent turbo boost.
Update the BIOS and drivers by visiting HP Support to update your BIOS.
Check the power adapter and battery. If the charger is faulty, it may cause excessive heat. Try using a different compatible HP charger. If your battery is old or damaged, it might not handle power correctly.
Use a cooling pad or an elevated stand to improve airflow and lower temperatures.
If the issue persists, it’s likely a thermal paste or hardware problem. Recheck your thermal application and heatsink placement. Let me know if you need more help! 😊
