OMEN 15-dh0139tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello there,

I have Omen by HP 15-dh0139tx laptop and purchased few months ago. I had contacted earlier to support regarding the same issue and I updated the BIOS. When am playing game temperature of the CPU goes to 97-100°C and the laptop would just shutdown. Also even when the laptop is idle and am doing nothing on it, temperature goes upto 60°C. Idle temperature is very high as well. After the BIOS update it has gone worse. Please help me with this issue.

@Sentient6,

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is overheating and shutting down.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you perform a system test on the computer to make sure that there are no hardware issues.

Follow the steps in the below article to perform a system test.

If the hardware test pass, then follow the steps in the below article and perform a system reset and check if it helps.

I have tried the HP diagnostics. Everything came ok. However, those temperatures, those temperatures are very high. 86 degrees GPU and 97-100 CPU. What are the max operating temperatures for HP Omen Laptop? Shall i send it for service?

HI Tobithelegend,

Did you try to udervolt the cpu ?

Sorry for the late reply. Didn't check the post after few days of no reply. I did try the hardware test using HP Support Assistant but temperature of CPU keeps getting high up to 98-degree Celsius  and sometimes the laptop has shut down due to overheating so I had to contact HP support centre and they gave me suggestions and I tried them as well but to no avail so at last I was told the HP would send the engineer when the lockdown gets over here and check my laptop. I think it just need to be cleaned and thermal paste to be changed.

Hello Sentient6,

When I first got my laptop the CPU temps were getting high up to 90 C , what I did to fix it was undervolting the cpu.

I followed this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWDA9J112hk

You only need to download ThrottleStop , you can find it in the video description.

When changing the voltage, don't go bellow -125.0, that's the safest route to take.

Hope this helps you,

Have a nice day !

Okay, will try that... Mostly I think it's due to dust in the fan and thermal paste needs to be changed to something better but will try Undervolt my CPU. Will it affect the performance of the CPU or GPU?

For how long do you have the laptop  ?

It's not going to affect the performance of the GPU,  I'm not sure about the CPU, but in games, I don't see a big difference in the lost of performance.  I'm mostly playing on medium or high settings in FullHD, depends on how demanding is the game.

What specs does you laptop have, because the video I sent you is for I7 8750H / 9750H

The laptop is six months old and I have requested HP-service executive to send me an engineer to solve the issue. Need to clean the fans and change the thermal paste.

The laptop is Omen by HP 15-dh0139TX model which has specs as given in the link below:
