Hi, I'm having a bit of weird issue with my three week old HP OMEN 15 battery/AC. I've been using the laptop with the AC plugged in and I have noticed that the battery can hold charge for a week exactly, but then all of a sudden when I open my laptop back up after a week I have a red battery indicator and the message on the battery app "plugged in, discharging" at 95%

 

I then have to unplug and replug in the AC and it will take either once or twice of doing this to start charging normally back up to 100% . This has been happening, like I mentioned, since I got the OMEN 15 three weeks ago- so the battery/AC are new.

I have run battery diagnostics and AC diagnostics and they have both come back as passed. I've also tried plugging in the AC to a different plug to see if the discharge still happens and it does. This is the third time testing it in another socket and it still discharges once a week. Which I find weird because the battery can keep charge for 7 days only.

 

Thank you for any help or advice.

 

Just to add- I have only been using the laptop for surfing the internet and/or  installing all my programs. I have yet to play any games or install any until I get advice on the discharge issue.

I have a few steps listed below that should help you resolve this concern:

  • Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.
  • Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
  • Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager:
    • 1) In the search box, type, and open “Device Manager”.
    • 2) Expand “Batteries”.
    • 3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.
    • 4) Click on “Uninstall”.
    • 5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
    • 6) Shutdown the computer.
    • 7) Remove the battery for a minute and then put it back in.
    • 😎 When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.
    • 9) Go to Device Manager.
    • 10) Expand Batteries.
    • 11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.
    • 12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"
  • Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me with these troubleshooting tips. I followed all the steps except for number 7 as my battery is not accessible so I could not remove it.

 

So far, so good. Once I plugged back into the socket the battery app registered that the AC was "plugged in, charging" and is currently still holding charge at 100%. (If I do get the "plugged in, discharging" message or a battery discharge of 95-96%  over night- I will let you know)

I did a diagnostic test on the battery while it was charging and then once it was charged back to 100%. Both tests passed. I have the log results for both tests below.

Hi again,
Unfortunitely, the problem is back. I just opened my laptop and plugged in the AC before turning on- opened up to find the battery bar is at 94% with "plugged in, discharging" message on the battery app.
