Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution

HP Omen 15ce0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The power adapter will charge the laptop for a few seconds and will then stop charging, when i plug the charger in the LED indicator stays a solid white.

I have launched the UEFI tests for both the battery and the ac adapter:

The first image is the battery details.

The Second picture is the power source test together, showing a warning for the ac adapter

photo_2020-01-06_23-36-42.jpgThe next the adapter on its own, it states the smart adapter feature failed to return valid data.photo_2020-01-06_23-36-53.jpg

I have unplugged the power cable from the adapter to try and reset any existing conditions there may be.

I have read online about BOIS updates and performed one of those this has still not fixed the issue.

I am able to charge the laptop through use of another charger, but this will only charge the laptop when the laptop is switched off.

Many Thanks In Advance

I am experiencing something very similar. I have my original charger and I also bought an OEM from a computer shop also. I am able to charge it as long as the screen is off and it's not in use. But if I am using it and plug it in, the orange indicator comes on and the indicator on the screen near the battery icon comes on for about 5 seconds then goes back off and is not charging any longer.

@Wallaby1993 & @Lesliekidd73104  Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the power adapter is stopped working.

I have a few steps listed below that should help you resolve this concern:

Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.

Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager:
1) In the search box, type and open “Device Manager”.

2) Expand “Batteries”.

3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

4) Click on “Uninstall”.

5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver

6) Shutdown the computer.

7) Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in.

😎 When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.

9) Go to Device Manager.

10) Expand Batteries.

11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.
