I've seen replies indicating that a cx pavilion laptop could be upgraded to 32 gb RAM.
Would this apply to the dk501 models?

Firstly Pavilion 15-dk0501 is an invalid model/product. Is in an HP Gaming Pavilion - 15-dk0501na machine ? Its specs

You can upgrade the above machine to 64GB (2 x 32GB)
(a) To 32GB using the following compatible RAM

(b) To 64GB using the following compatible RAM
https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct2k8g4sfra266/ct18813543
