FULL CORRECT PRODCUT NAME:
Omen by Hp 15-ax209no Laptop PC
Hello,
I need a bit of information for my HP Omen. I bought the computer knowing that I wanted to upgrade the RAM from 8GB to 16GB as I use some demanding software. I purchased two Crucial: 8GB, DDR4-2133, SODIMM, 1.2V CL15 RAM sticks for this. But to my surprise when opening the computer there were not 1x8GB stick as marketed but 2x 4GB sticks. In my confusion I had to backtrack to see if I had read something wrong, but out of all the specification sheets on the HP Omen 15-ax209no I find, they all claim that it's supposed to contain 1x8GB stick.
So I am asking you if I am simply looking at the wrong sheets? Why does mine contain 2x 4GB sticks and not 1x8GB stick? The rest of the specifications adds up.

@ArchiPhilip, welcome to the forum.
Here is the "Maintenance and Service Guide" for the notebook. On Page 4, Chapter 1, there is a section titled "Memory". It states that there are two SODIMMS that are customer non-accessible/non-upgradeable.
Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Technically, the specification does add up. The laptop did ship with 8GB of DDR4 memory, just not in the same configuration as the product outline. This does yield inherently better performance than a single 8GB SODIMM due to parallel operations.
Unfortunately, this does entail that you have to purchase a complete 16GB kit instead of a single SODIMM of 8GB. Don't worry. You can recoup most of your losses by selling the kits you already have. Just make sure you match the memory specifications exactly.
And if you don't have experience working inside of machines, I recommend you take the laptop to someone who does. The laptop may have a small assortment of screws on the outside, but it is held together by plastic clasps both around the edges and INSIDE the system. If you break one of those, your laptop's integrity will fail.
