Hi,
I was looking for help on a similar issue I have "HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-cx0xxx " series laptop. I have optane memory installed, now I would want to install SSD to improve the performance of my laptop.
Do you think it would make a difference having an SSD ( with the operating system on it) as i already have optane?
If yes, Is it better to install the SSD with the optane still running or replace the optane with SSD?
Sorry if its a noob Q... but really appreciate the help!
Thanks,

Hello @naren87
Your model can use either Sata or NVMe M.2 drives.
You cannot use Optane if you are going to install an M.2 SSD as you only have one M.2 slot.
Before you change it out, go into Windows and disablel the Optane connection first.

Once the Optane is disabled, you can remove the Optane drive.
Before you install the new SSD, disconnect the HDD first. Install Windows to the new drive. Confirm it will run correctly and update it, before reconnecting the HDD. Then you can wipe the HDD and use it for storage.
Because your system is compatible with both Sata and NVMe M.2 drives, the NVMe drive will only run as 3x2 speed, not 3x4.
So I wouldnt recommend purchasing an expensive high speed pro drive. But none the less, an NVMe drive at half speed will still be faster than Sata.

Let me know if you have other questions.
