After a few months my battery design capacity (not full charge capacity) decreased from 69,808 mWh to 51,312 mWh and cycle count from 56 to 25.

@coldreaper91, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Battery capacity, specifically the design capacity, can theoretically remain stable over the life of the battery, but changes in reporting software or calibration can result in perceived changes. However, there are some key considerations:

Design Capacity Fluctuations: Design capacity should not change unless there is a calibration or software update affecting how it's reported. Sometimes, discrepancies arise due to firmware or software updates that recalibrate the battery's reported design capacity.

Full Charge Capacity vs. Cycle Count: It's possible to see changes in full charge capacity more commonly than in design capacity as a battery ages or through calibration processes, which help align the displayed capacity more closely to the actual available capacity. The cycle count should generally incrementally increase unless it's incorrectly reported due to a reset or recalibration.

Possible Actions:

  • Calibration: Regular calibration of your battery can help ensure more accurate readings. Manually discharging the battery fully and then recharging it can help realign the battery's capacity to its actual state.
  • Software Update: Ensure that your system and battery management software are up-to-date, as updates may address reporting bugs or introduce new battery management features.
  • Review Battery Health: Use HP diagnostics to check for any battery issues or consider the HP Battery Health Manager for business notebooks, which provides insights on battery health.

Factors Affecting Capacity and Cycles: The capacity and cycle life are influenced by temperature, usage patterns, and the overall battery management system.

For guidance on battery testing and calibration, you can refer to HP Notebook PCs - Testing and calibrating the battery (Windows).

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
