Omen 17-an012dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Last year I purchased a Refurbished HP Omen 17-AN012DX Laptop. Several weeks ago, the battery was shown to be Weak and HP Support Assistant recommenced that it be replaced. Currently it has only run 19 out of 300 cycles and shows a date of 2017/05, so it shouldn't have gone bad, yet. Anyways, I opted to purchase a new battery from Replacement Laptop Batteries.com. Multiple attempts to install the new battery have all failed as for some strange reason the laptop can't see the new battery, no matter what method is used. When I reinstall the old battery, the laptop has no problem seeing it. Below are the steps taken to install the new battery:

     1) Powered down laptop, unplugged AC adapter, removed back plate, removed old battery, installed new battery, replaced back cover, plugged in AC adapter, powered up laptop. Received CMOS error, pressed Enter, received No Battery (601) error, pressed Enter. At Logon Screen, selected Shutdown and noticed that the Power Icon showed Plugged In with No Battery.

     2) Unplugged AC Adapter, removed back plate, unplugged new battery, examined connectors and battery saw no issues, replaced back plate, held Power Button for 15-20 seconds, removed back plate, plugged in new battery, replaced back plate, pressed Power Button. Nothing happened.

     3) Removed back plate, removed new battery, replaced back cover, held Power Button for 15-20 seconds, removed back plate, installed old battery, replaced back plate, pressed Power Button, received CMOS Error, pressed Enter, pressed F10 repeatedly, opened BIOS, set time and date to current, selected Saved and Exit, allowed laptop to boot.

     4) Waited 30+ hours, Shutdown Laptop, unplugged AC Adapter, removed back plate, uninstalled old battery, replaced back plate, held Power Button for 15-20 seconds, removed back plate, installed new battery, replaced back plate, pressed Power Button, no response, plugged in AC Adapter, pressed Power Button, received CMOS error, pressed Enter, received No Battery (601) error, pressed Enter, repeatedly pressed ESC, pressed F2, selected Components Test, selected Power, selected Battery, selected Run Once, Test auto-cancelled, reviewed log, saved log, selected Main Menu, selected Exit, allowed laptop to boot.

     5) Reinstalled old battery using the same steps as before. Powered up laptop and allowed it to boot. New battery is now sitting on the box it came in. Sent email to Replacement Laptop Batteries.com concerning the new battery with the order number. Created this post.

Any advice or tips on what I may have missed would be greatly appreciated.

Yesterday, before moving to a new address, I used the correct steps to install a new battery. This is the new battery mentioned in the previous post. The laptop will not recognise the battery, but it did fully charge it, and I am able to run on battery power with no problem. I will try different methods to get the laptop to recognise the battery, and post the results so as to help those who may have the same problem, if not on the same Omen model.
