Hi @Askew1172,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your OMEN by HP - 17 laptop is experiencing a critical hardware or firmware issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Power off the laptop completely.
  2. Disconnect the power adapter and remove any external devices (e.g., USB drives, external monitors).
  3. If the battery is removable, remove it. For non-removable batteries, hold down the power button for 15-30 seconds to drain residual power.
  4. Reconnect the power adapter and attempt to power on the laptop.

Verify the BIOS Recovery Attempt

If the BIOS recovery did not complete successfully, the firmware could be corrupted. Follow these steps to attempt another recovery:

Prepare a USB Recovery Drive:

  • On another working PC, download the HP BIOS recovery tool from the HP website.
  • Insert a USB drive (at least 8 GB) and use the tool to create a BIOS recovery drive for your OMEN by HP - 17.

Perform the BIOS Recovery:

  • Insert the USB recovery drive into the laptop.
  • Press and hold the Windows key + B (or V on some models), then press the power button while holding the keys.
  • Release the keys when you hear beeping or see the HP BIOS Update screen.

Allow the process to complete, and the system should restart. If this fails, move to the next step.

Disconnect the CMOS Battery

If the laptop powers off immediately after the BIOS recovery attempt, the issue may be related to corrupted settings. Resetting the CMOS battery can help:

  1. Disconnect the power adapter and battery.
  2. Open the back cover of your laptop (if you’re comfortable doing so) and locate the CMOS battery (a small coin-cell battery on the motherboard).
  3. Disconnect or remove the CMOS battery for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Reconnect the CMOS battery, assemble the laptop, and power it on.

Check for Hardware Issues

  • If the laptop still won't stay powered on, the motherboard, GPU, or another critical component might be damaged.
  • No display and shutting off could also point to overheating or a failed power delivery system. Inspect for:
    • Loose or damaged connections.
    • Faulty RAM or SSD.
    • Signs of physical damage to the motherboard.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
