If the computer is in Warranty, HP will repair the battery under the Warranty on the computer.

Good deal, free.

On the other hand, it takes a long time to send your computer to a repair depot to have a battery put in it.

And, No - at least where I am located, HP is not allowed to send you a new battery.  That said, if you live in the high country accessible only by climbers and mountain goats, there might be exceptions - HP might send you a battery in that case.  Ask.

Generally, HP doesn't keep a lot of batteries in stock - expensive and difficult to do so - you will likely have to find your own compatible battery.  ??
