HP Omen 17 W101NM
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Few days ago battery on my HP Omen 17 W101NM sudenly got swollen up, laptop is 2 and half year old ( out warranty) but until now I didnt have any problem with battery or laptop , battery was doing fine. Just like I said, few days ago laptops starting act wierd , I was watching youtube ( on battery) when screen suddenly got black,  I heard generic windows sound just like some usb is disconected and seconds after that screen is come back to life and video on youtube resume like nothing was happened. One minut later i got notification that my G-Sync is conected .... It was weird , becuse until now I didnt have any problem with this laptop and I was thinking about buying new one in next 6 month ( upgrade to faster GPU). But after few minutes situation got worse, I notice that place above battery got hot and when I close look up I notice big bulge. I immediatly shut down laptop and open it as fast I can, becuse I was afraid that battery will explode or catch fire and destroy laptop and my room in proces...I take out battery and stored it in safe place, reasembly laptop and its working just fine on AC adapter.

I saw that HP make recall of many laptops made from 2016 and 2017 becuse of faulty battery, HP Omen is not listed on that list but i saw thread here that some people get free replaced battery on this model, even if its out warranty.

So my question is does my battery is also can be free replaced, is HP Omen also get some troublesome battery from factory and qualifed for recall?  Btw I'm from Serbia and currently  living in Czech republic. The reason I didnt contact HP support in my country ( Serbia) is becuse many retailer in Serbia have realy bad customer support, not sure what is situation with HP. That why I decide to write here, customer support is 100% better in USA, even if you cant help me directly at least you can inform HP support in Serbia about my case.

Few years ago I had problem with mobile operator Telenor, local customer suport does not do anything, I was losing time until I contact directly Telenor customer support in  Norway. They then probably contact local customer support and problem is solved. Sadly , this is only way to get your customer right in Serbia with many retailer😒

I still dont get any answer from HP , and I higly doubt i will ever get. It clear, only people who threat with lawsuit in this case scenario is get customer support to answer and provide new battery. HP Omen is my second laptop from HP,first one was HP Envy ... After years of loyality , first " little" problem customer support left me on my own, on other hand customer in USA get all customer support they needed. I was planed to buy new laptop in next 6 month, HP Omen of course but after this experience I think i will change my mind and chose something from Lenovo or Asus. Maybe i will get worse product , but at least I know customer support from Asus actualy works. It was fun until its last HP, but you lose at least one loyal customer:(

In Australia, most phone retailers maintain return bins for dead phones and particularly batteries. As long as the swelling was charge-related and is not continuing, depositing in such a bin is recommended.

Many metal recyclers will also accept batteries off all types. Some types of battery (particulary car batteries) can even get you money.

Because Lithium is a finite resource and environmentally toxic, even button cells from other consumer devices should be recycled.

I keep a bin of all cells and batteries. When it reaches about 50% capacity, I take it directly to our local waste depot to ensure that they don’t go to land-fill.

In Serbia people dont realy care about toxic waste, even plastic is not sorted properly:( In Czech republic is different story, there is trash bin for used battery, but I dont think is safe just throw battery in this state there becuse battery is more swolen after two weaks, preasure is building up and most likely it will broke the plasric case. Something terible goes wrong with this battery and I use it proprerly whole time. What is got me mad is silence from HP, they dont care about safety of their customer. On website they even claim that swollen battery is not safety issue, which is a lie, dangerous lie to customer. In my case, battery swoled in few minutes, luckly I saw what is happing and quick turn of computer and remove battery. Luckly, its was during the day becuse if that happened during the night, when I'm sleep  battery will probabluly burst, that will lead to fire that can spread to my desk, my curtains.... If that happen in deep sleep.... Well, in that case beside battery i will be dead to...

Long story short , I try to reach out to HP , they went silent. If we cant talk via customer support, twiter and this forum, we will talk in court in month and half, when i come back to Serbia. I will keep battery as evidence, if dont burst , i will pay  diagnostic which will prove that is battery is used right . I will add to sue many case of swolen battery in this series HP Omen laptop and copied mail from HP customer service  in Serbia, where I was informed there is actualy problem with battery in this series HP Omen laptop, but they have instruction to changr battery only if it have warranty. I will then ask in court,If HP was iformed about this problem, why they didnt change battery to all customers with defective battery, instead they chose to risk customer property and in worst case scenario, life😡 Also, warranty on new, original battery is only 3 month, in Serbia by law its 6 month.
