Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution

OMEN by HP - 15-dc0980nd
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

When I got this laptop it had SmartSense enabled automatically and this couldn't be turned off, or at least not properly. After a bit of searching I found the Regedit solution, which worked really well. The problem is that recently the delay started appearing again, but just for the two mouse buttons.

This means that I can still move my cursor around, but I just can't clikc anythng for ~1 second after I pressed any key on the keyboard. Does anyone have any ideas for solving this?

with best regards

Greetings!

Welcome to the HP Support Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, there's an issue with the touchpad.

Don't worry, I'm here to help!

Let's try re-installing the drivers -

1) Right click on the start or Windows icon and open the "Device Manager".
2) Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices".
3) Right click on the "Synaptics TouchPad".
4) Click on uninstall and restart the computer.

Download and install the Synaptics TouchPad Driver from this link.

If the issue still persists, try a system restore -

1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F11 once for System Recovery.
4) Choose the Keyboard Layout.
5) Click on Troubleshoot.
6) Go to Recovery Manager and click on System Restore.
7) Choose a Restore point or a Restore date when the computer was working fine.
8) Click on OK to initialize the System Restore.

Hope this helps!

Let me know how that goes.

Hi, thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately reinstalling the drivers didn't seem to work, which may have to do with the fact that I tried reinstalling it before and it might not properly have been removed. I did remove the drivers in the device manager, but they appeared without reinstalling right after I restarted my laptop.

Because I just got this laptop a few weeks ago I didn't have any restore points, and I would prefer to not reset it.

It is not an enormous issue, so if there is no clear solution availeble (right now) it won't be the end of the world for me, but I would appreciate it if we could find a solution 🙂

Great day back to you!

Thanks for getting back to us. Appreciate you trying the steps.

Have you tested the hardware? If you have not, let's try these steps -

1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F2 once.
4) Go to Component test.
5) From the list, run the Touchpad test.

Let me know.

Okay, so I did not test it before, good to know this is how I can test hardware.

The issue doesn't seem to be hardware related. In the test I can click while holding down buttons. This again makes me think it has to do with the "SmartSense" feature.

By the way, by reïnstalling the drivers SmartSense is back to being stuck on (which was an issue I had before but fixed with this method). Would it be useful to just try exactly that again and hope it doesn't appear again?
