OMEN 16 inch Slim Gaming Laptop PC 16-an0000 (A57XKAV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello! I have an HP OMEN Gaming Laptop. My previous laptop (Lenovo) had a Task View key and a Lock Key (to show the logon screen), and I know you can press Windowskey + Tab for task view, and Windowskey + L for lock, but I want a one-tap key for it. How can I do that?

Thank you to those who help! I really appreciate it!

Hi @Michelle365, Welcome to HP Support Community!

The ability to assign a single key for common actions like Task View and Lock is a huge quality-of-life improvement. Since you have an HP OMEN Gaming Laptop, you have a couple of excellent options, primarily using the built-in software.

The best way to achieve a single-key press is to use one of the programmable keys on your OMEN keyboard (if available) or to remap a seldom-used key to a Macro.

Option 1: Using OMEN Gaming Hub (Recommended)

The OMEN Gaming Hub software is pre-installed on your laptop and is designed for exactly this kind of customization. You can program a macro (a sequence of key presses) and assign it to a single key.

Steps for Task View:

  • Open OMEN Gaming Hub (often by pressing the dedicated OMEN key).

  • Navigate to the Macros or Customization tab

  • Select a key you want to use. Good candidates are:

    • A dedicated macro key (if your model has them).

    • A function key (F1-F12) that you rarely use, possibly in conjunction with the Fn key

    • A non-essential key like Insert, Home, End, or Delete(if you are willing to sacrifice its original function).

  • Create a New Macro.

  • In the macro recorder, record the shortcut: Press the $\text{Windows} \text{ key}$ and the $\text{Tab}$ key simultaneously.

  • Save the macro and assign it to your chosen key.

Steps for Lock Screen:

  • Repeat the process above in the OMEN Gaming Hub Macros tab.

  • Select a different key for the Lock function.

  • Record the shortcut: Press the Windows Key and the L key simultaneously.

  • Save and assign.

Note on the OMEN Key: The dedicated OMEN key that launches the Gaming Hub is often difficult or impossible to remap using standard tools, as its function is hard-coded at a low level by HP's system utility, so avoid trying to use that one.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
