My HP Victus rtx 2050 laptop has suddenly started making weird noises. idk what caused it it seems like my cooling fan is making some grinding noise. I have tried to blow at the bottom to remove any kind of dust but the noise persisted.

Hi @Praneel_2006,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Victus laptop (RTX 2050 model) has started making a grinding noise from the cooling fan. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and how to resolve it.

Restart and Listen Carefully
○ Restart your laptop and check if the noise starts immediately or only when the system heats up.
○ If the grinding is constant, it’s likely a mechanical fan issue.

Check Air Vents
○ Place the laptop on a flat, hard surface so vents aren’t blocked.
○ Use compressed air (not just blowing) to clean out dust from intake and exhaust vents.
○ Avoid tilting the can, short controlled bursts work best.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
○ Restart and press F2 repeatedly to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
○ Run a Component Test > Fan to see if the system detects any failure.

Update BIOS and Drivers
○ Go to HP Support Assistant or HP Support site.
○ Update BIOS and chipset drivers, as these control fan speed and performance.

Listen for Changes in Noise
○ After updates and cleaning, check if the noise reduces.
○ If grinding continues, the fan bearings may be worn out.

Avoid Temporary Fixes
○ Don’t apply oil or external lubricants, they can damage the fan further.
○ Don’t keep running the laptop with persistent grinding, as fan failure can lead to overheating.

I hope this helps.
