@MOH71,

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

Please try the below steps and check.

NOTE: The Group Policy feature is not available in the Home edition. So, only when you run Windows 10 Professional, Enterprise, or Education, you can use the Group Policy Editor to change the settings to prevent Windows 10 from automatically updating. The group policy editor will notify you of new updates without automatically installing them.

  • Press the Windows logo key + R then type gpedit.msc and click OK.
  • Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.
  • Double-click Configure Automatic Updates.
  • Select Disabled in Configured Automatic Updates on the left, and click Apply and OK to disable the Windows automatic update feature.

Note: If you need to update your Windows version later, you can repeat the steps above, then select Enabled to turn on this feature, so that you can continue to download the updates.

Let me know how it goes. Awaiting your reply!

@MOH71,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

This is a wonderful place to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

I understand that you want to turn off Windows updates and Windows defender services on your computer. It is not recommended to turn off both the services. However, if you wish to do so please follow the below steps.

Turn off windows defender temporarily

Step 1: Click “Settings” in the “Start Menu”. And then choose “Update & Security”.

Step 2: Select “Windows Security” from the left pane and choose “Open Windows Defender Security Center”.

Step 3: Open Windows Defender’s settings, and then click on the "Virus & Threat Protection settings" link.

Step 4: Click the Real-Time Protection, Cloud-Delivered Protection and Automatic Sample Submission switches to turn Windows Defender off.

Turn off Windows Updates in Windows 10

You can do this by disabling the Windows Update Service. Via Control Panel > Administrative Tools, you can access Windows Services Manager. In the Services window, scroll down to Windows Update and turn off the Service. To turn it off, right-click on the process, click on Properties and select Disabled. That will take care of Windows Updates not being installed on your machine.
