I’ve had my laptop for approximately a year and a half and after treating it well out of seemingly nowhere the on button has been faltering. The past few days it’s been iffy and i’ve had to just like you with it a bit but as of now it is completely not turning on. Can anyone help with a fix?

Hi @SauceSoyTause,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the power button on your HP laptop is no longer working, there are several potential causes and solutions you can try. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and possibly fix the issue:
1. Check for Power Issues
Check the Power Supply:
- Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the laptop and the power outlet.
- Verify that the power adapter's LED indicator (if present) is lit.
- Try a different power outlet to rule out issues with the outlet.
Check the Battery:
- If your laptop has a removable battery, try removing it and then pressing and holding the power button for 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reinsert the battery and try to power on the laptop.
Use Only the Power Adapter:
- If the battery is non-removable or you suspect it might be the issue, try turning on the laptop with just the power adapter connected (without the battery, if removable).
2. Perform a Hard Reset
- Hard Reset:
- Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, external monitors, etc.).Unplug the power adapter.
- If the battery is removable, remove it.Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power adapter (and the battery if it was removed).Try turning on the laptop.
3. Inspect the Power Button
- Physical Inspection:
- Check if the power button feels stuck or physically damaged.
- Gently press around the power button area to see if it loosens or activates.
4. Use an External Keyboard (if applicable)
- External Keyboard:
- If your laptop supports turning on via an external keyboard (usually via a docking station or specific models), try using an external keyboard to power on the laptop.
5. BIOS and Hardware Diagnostics
BIOS Access:
- If you can get the laptop to power on occasionally, try accessing the BIOS (usually by pressing Esc, F2, F10, or Del during startup) to check if any settings are affecting the power button.
- Restore BIOS settings to default if applicable.
HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- If the laptop powers on, run the HP Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues. You can usually access this by pressing F2 during startup.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
