I have an HP Transcend 16 gaming laptop.

The recording levels using the built-in microphone are much too low, even at 100.

The test indicates 10 to 16% of the total volume.

I have tried many things.

@JammTV, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Transcend 16 gaming laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand how frustrating it must be to have low microphone levels, especially after trying multiple fixes. Let’s work together to get this sorted out.

Here are a few steps you can try to improve the microphone volume:

Check Privacy Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and make sure that microphone access is enabled for your apps.

Adjust Microphone Settings:

  • Right-click the Speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
  • Go to the Recording tab, right-click your microphone, and choose Properties.
  • Under the Levels tab, increase the microphone level and try adjusting the Microphone Boost (if available).

Disable Audio Enhancements:

  • In the same Microphone Properties window, go to the Enhancements tab.
  • If any enhancements are enabled, try disabling them and check the difference.

Update Audio Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button).
  • Expand Sound, video, and game controllers.
  • Right-click your audio driver (e.g., Realtek) and select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
  • Alternatively, you can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

Test with Another App:

  • Try recording using a different app (like Voice Recorder) to see if the issue is app-specific.

If none of these steps work, you might want to run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for any hardware issues with the microphone:

  • Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly before the HP logo appears.
  • Select Component Tests > Microphone Test and follow the instructions.

Let me know how it goes! If the issue persists, we’ll keep troubleshooting until we find a solution. 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
