Hi! I was just doing a regular thermal paste change on my HP VICTUS FB2082WM, but this time around I also cleaned off the thermal putty on the chips. now I couldn’t find any thermal putty in the country live in, so I wanted to ask if I could opt for thermal pads instead, and if so, which ones do I use and what should be their thickness?

Would appreciate a lot if anyone takes there time to answer this

Hi there,

Good question — and it’s great that you’re taking proper care of your HP Victus FB2082WM. Yes, you can safely replace the original thermal putty with thermal pads, as long as you choose the right material and thickness.

Here are a few guidelines:

Thermal Pad Type: Use high-quality silicone-based pads with good thermal conductivity (at least 6 W/mK or higher). Popular options include brands like Thermalright, Arctic, or Gelid.

Thickness: Most Victus models use pads between 1.0 mm and 1.5 mm on the VRAM and MOSFET chips. To be precise, you can measure the gap between the chips and the heatsink if you have calipers — but 1.0 mm is usually the safe default.

⚠️Important: Make sure the pads make firm contact without putting pressure on the board. If the pad is too thick, it can prevent proper heatsink seating and reduce CPU/GPU contact.

💡Alternative Option: If you can’t find thermal pads locally, you can also use non-conductive thermal putty or paste alternatives such as Thermal Grizzly Minus Pad 8 or Fujipoly pads. i applied same method before playing Ninja Arashi 2 Mod on my pc.

After applying the new pads, reassemble the heatsink carefully and check your temperatures under load — they should stay within normal ranges (CPU around 80–85°C under gaming loads).

Hope this helps, and good luck with your Victus maintenance! 👍
