Subject: New Victus Laptop - Top Bezel Flexes and Clicks Near Webcam When Opening Lid

Hello HP Community,

I purchased a brand-new HP Victus laptop (Model: Victus 15-fa3012AX) just 8-9 days ago in India.

I have noticed a potential issue with the build quality and I'm concerned about it. When the laptop is fully closed and I go to open the lid, I naturally lift it from the center of the top edge where the webcam is located.

Every time I do this, the plastic bezel around the webcam area flexes or bends inwards significantly before the hinge starts to move. As it flexes, I hear and feel a distinct click like sound.

The laptop is brand new and has never been dropped or mishandled. The camera itself working, and the screen has no issues till now. However, I am worried that this repeated flexing and clicking could eventually lead to damage, such as a cracked bezel, a broken screen, or a malfunctioning webcam.

My questions for the community are:

  •  Is this inward flex and clicking sound considered normal for the build of this Victus model?
  • Could this be a sign of a manufacturing defect, like an improperly seated bezel or a misaligned clip?
  • What should I do? Since the laptop is only 8-9 days old, should I be pursuing a Dead on Arrival (DOA) replacement from the seller instead of a repair?
  • I have not been able to successfully contact the local service center yet. What is the most effective way to get this inspected by HP support in India?

Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and help.

Hi @Kochu567,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for describing the issue so clearly and for sharing the video. I can imagine how unsettling it must be to hear that clicking sound and feel the flex near the webcam every time you open your brand-new HP Victus 15-fa3012AX laptop. That moment of hesitation, wondering if something might snap or crack, is not what you expect from a fresh-out-of-the-box device.

While some minor bezel movement can occur in plastic-framed laptops, noticeable flexing and audible clicking near the webcam is not typical, especially if it feels like the bezel is bending inward before the hinge engages. This could indicate:

  • A misaligned bezel clip or
  • A manufacturing defect in the top cover assembly.

Since the webcam and display are working fine now, it’s not an immediate functional failure, but it could lead to long-term damage.
