Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (680A4AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, i had an issue with my OS and had to reinstall windows 10. Since then, i have some drivers that are undetected by windows. I believe they are unimportant since i do not see any weird behaviour, except for my touchpad drivers. My touchpad is not recognised. I have tried using Windows Update and the HP Driver installer, but windows says everything is all good, and the HP driver installer crashes without any error. I have checked the logs too, no error.

Please, help me.

Hi @jawedm2w0e,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It sounds like the driver issue might be specific to the touchpad on your Victus by HP Gaming Laptop. This can happen if Windows doesn't automatically detect the correct drivers after a clean reinstall, especially for custom drivers. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Download and Install Synaptics/Elan Drivers Manually:

  • Visit the HP Support page for the Victus 15-fa0000 series and download the Synaptics or Elan touchpad drivers directly (based on the hardware in your laptop).
  • If you’re unsure of the correct driver, try both as one should match your hardware.
  • Once downloaded, run the installer as an administrator.

Device Manager Update:

  • Open Device Manager (press Win + X > Device Manager).
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices or look under Human Interface Devices for any unidentified or generic HID devices.
  • Right-click on the device and choose Update driver > Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  • Choose the touchpad driver from the list if it appears, or manually select the driver you downloaded.

HP Recovery Manager (If Available):

  • Check if HP Recovery Manager is installed on your device. This utility often includes drivers that aren't picked up by Windows Update or the general HP installer.
  • Open HP Recovery Manager and look for options to reinstall drivers, especially for the touchpad.

Try Compatibility Mode for HP Driver Installer:

  • Sometimes, running the HP Driver Installer in compatibility mode for Windows 10 or Windows 8 can help if it’s crashing.
  • Right-click on the HP Driver Installer file, choose Properties > Compatibility, check Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows 10 or Windows 8, then apply and run the installer.

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually pressing F10 during startup).
  • Look for settings related to the touchpad or pointing device (often under Advanced or Main tabs).
  • Ensure the touchpad is enabled, save changes, and exit.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  • HP laptops come with built-in hardware diagnostics that you can access by pressing F2 at startup.
  • Run the diagnostics to check if it detects the touchpad hardware. If it’s not detected here, it may indicate a hardware issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
