Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution

Hello, since I have moved from Windows 10 to Linux Mint I've noticed that when I touch the trackpad, the LED's on the keyboard are not turned on, which was the case in Windows 10.

Can anybody tell me what is the mechanism via which the trackpad getting touched causes the keyboard LED's to light up? I mean, what is the code that is generated within the Windows 10 operating system or the HP laptop's BIOS that makes the LED's turn on when the trackpad is touched? Because if I can find that out, then I can most likely get it fixed in Linux Mint.

Many thanks!

@DolphinBrain77, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately, Linux support for certain HP features, like the keyboard LED triggering from the trackpad, is limited. This functionality is likely controlled by Windows-specific drivers or BIOS settings.

If you want to keep using these features, I’d recommend upgrading to Windows 11 (if your system supports it). Otherwise, you might need to look into custom drivers or kernel tweaks, but this can be tricky on Linux.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
