Hi, I have an OMEN 16 Slim gaming laptop, and I would like to know if it has a second SSD slot and which models of SSD's are compatible. I also want to upgrade my ram from 16 to 32Gb but I don't know if it is soldered or not. And if it is not soldered also tell which ones are compatible. Thanks for your help.

Hello NoLife.

Let me start out by saying that your system is indeed upgradeable. The MANUAL for this series actually covers 3 different models: 16-an0000 , 16-am0000 and 16-am1000. Page 2 on the manual informs us that there are two slots for SSDs, meaning there is an option to install secondary storage -but only on systems without the RTX5070 gpu. Of the three models (I have linked to their specs sheets above) only the 16-am0000 has the option of having dual 512GB SSDs fitted at the factory. I think that it's more than likely only that particular model has a soldered-on m.2 slot for another drive. The Omen 16 Slim sold on Microcenter with the 5060 graphics has been reported as NOT having this slot: Does the HP Omen 16 an0001nr have an extra SSD slot? (Reddit discussion). There is also a picture of the motherboard:

Omen16Slim_mobo.jpeg

Since -according to the manual- systems that have GPUs other than the 5070 should have two m.2 slots, I seriously doubt that any Omen 16 Slim has secondary storage.

According to the specifications sheet for the 16-an0000 gaming laptop, HP ships these with up to 32GB memory or you can have them upgraded this way at an HP authorized Service center. Maximum speed for the modules can be 5600, so I assume the motherboard is limited to this -and I'm only mentioning this because these CPUs actually support higher speeds. RAM guaranteed to work on these systems can be found on Crucial's page: OMEN 16 Slim Gaming (Crucial). The same page also offers Gen4 drives with assured compatibility.

It's worth mentioning that among the compatible memory modules offered by Crucial is a 2x32GB kit. That means Crucial considers max RAM for this DDR5 system to be 64GB. The CPUs themselves actually support up to 128GBs at the speed of 6400, and online stores have started selling machines like these with aftermarket upgrades of 96GBs or even 128GBs. For example here is an Omen 16-an0017nt seen at the Turkish HP Store:

Omen16-an0017nt_HPstore.jpg

.....sold online upgraded with two 48GB DDR5 modules:

Omen16-an0017nt_96GB.jpg

OMEN 16-an0017nt 96GB DDR5 (weblegelsin.com)

Imho modern systems should be upgraded to -at least- 64GBs, making another upgrade meant to further increase total system memory unecessary for many years to come.

Hi @NoLife,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand your OMEN 16 Slim gaming laptop is having trouble staying connected to the Internet even though it shows full Wi-Fi bars. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

a. Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi
Open your Wi-Fi settings, select your current network, and choose Forget.
Restart the laptop and reconnect by entering your password again.
This clears saved IP or configuration conflicts.

b. Reset Network Settings
In the Windows search bar, type Network Reset and open it.
Click Reset Now, then restart your laptop when prompted.
This reinstalls all network adapters and resets them to default settings.

c. Update or Reinstall the Network Driver
Press Windows + X → Device Manager → Network Adapters.
Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter and choose Update driver → Search automatically.
If it’s already updated, choose Uninstall device, restart the laptop, and let Windows reinstall it automatically.

d. Disable Power Saving for the Wi-Fi Adapter
In Device Manager, right-click your Wi-Fi adapter → Properties → Power Management tab.
Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
 Click OK and restart.

e. Flush DNS and Renew IP
Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run the following commands one by one:
ipconfig /flushdns  ipconfig /release  ipconfig /renew  netsh winsock reset
Restart the laptop after running these commands.

f. Change DNS Settings
Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Wi-Fi → Hardware properties → Edit DNS settings.
Set it to Manual, enable IPv4, and enter:
 Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8
 Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4
 Save and reconnect to Wi-Fi.

g. Disable IPv6 (Optional)
Go to Control Panel → Network and Sharing Center → Change adapter settings.
 Right-click your Wi-Fi → Properties → Uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) → Click OK.

I hope this helps.
