Power your laptop off, do not just reboot it.
Do a hard reset: Hold down power button for 20 seconds. Press one more time (if necessary) to turn it back on.
Tap the ESC key after powering on. Tap it once a second after you see the LEDs on the keyboard flash. When you see the startup menu, press F2 to run diagnostics. Run the USB port test.
