@bharath47, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Gaming laptop is not charging via the USB Type-C port while connected to a monitor, here are a few key points and steps to help resolve the issue:

Understanding the Issue

Most HP Gaming laptops support USB-C Display Output (DP Alt Mode) and Power Delivery (PD), but not simultaneously through the same port. This means:

  • If you're using a USB-C to HDMI/DisplayPort adapter or cable to connect to a monitor, the port may be dedicated to video output only, and charging may be disabled during this time.
  • Some models do not support USB-C charging at all, especially if they come with high-wattage barrel-type AC adapters (e.g., 200W or 230W).

Steps to Check and Troubleshoot

Check Laptop Specifications
Visit HP official product page for your laptop model to confirm if USB-C charging is supported.

Inspect the USB-C Port Labeling
Look for a battery icon or Thunderbolt symbol near the USB-C port. If there's no battery icon, it likely does not support charging.

Try Charging Without Monitor Connected
Disconnect the monitor and plug in the USB-C charger. If it charges, the port may not support charging + video output simultaneously.

Use HP Certified USB-C Charger
Ensure you're using a USB-C PD charger that meets the laptop’s power requirements. HP recommends using original accessories.

Check BIOS and Firmware Updates
Outdated BIOS or firmware may affect USB-C functionality.

Try a USB-C Docking Station
Some HP USB-C docks support charging + video output simultaneously.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
