HP GAMING CX0178TX 5EF41PA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi supporters,

I have bought a LAPTOP HP GAMING CX0178TX recently. It comes with a SSD 128GB. And I want to upgrade SSD to

Samsung SSD 970 EVO NVMe M.2 500GB. Please help me confirm whether this laptop is compatible with this Samsung SSD.

References:

1. HP Gaming Pavilion - 15-cx0178tx

2. SSD 970 EVO NVMe M.2 500GB

Thank you,

Thanh Tran

Hello @thanhtrandang

Yes you can use that Samsung Evo 970 but, it wont run at full speed on your system.

Your Pavilion is compatible with both NVMe and Sata M.2 drives on the same port. Because of this, some of the PCIe lanes were used for Sata and you will only get about half the speed from that Evo 970.

If you seek a bigger SSD, save your money and install a Sata M.2 drive instead. You wont notice a difference in average everyday usage or gaming. Just my opinion. 🙂
