HP OMEN

Hello all,

I was wondering on how to get started if I wanted to upgrade my laptop. It's the base model and I wouldn't even know how/where to get started. I want to upgrade to an SSD since it's currently a slow 1TB HDD at the moment. What SSD's are compatible? What other upgrades can I make to better the performance. The more sources the better.

Thank you for your patience, I'm really new to this.

I don't know what is your machine therefore I have to use the following machine is an example

                   HP OMEN - 15-ax103tx

Your machine should be very close to the above specs. Manual for the series

Given your machine has very similar specs of the above machine, you can't upgrade RAM but you can add M.2 SATA SSD to your machine using

              https://www.crucial.com/products/ssd/crucial-mx500-ssd
              https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/860evo/
   Or similar from reputable vendors.

          One example

Regards.

Hello @Dandylionn

You can add pretty much any brand M.2 Drive. Its not a picky situation like adding Ram is. Your system will take either Sata or NVMe drives. I would suggest going with NVMe. A good brand name is recommended. Samsung, Crucial, Sandisk, etc etc. Know that some of those brands will require you to register the drive right away, if you want the warranty.

The best thing to do first is go through your manual and see how to access the drive.

With those older models, I would open the case and make sure the port is available. Sometimes if the model laptop didnt come with an M.2 drive from factory, the port might not be soldered on.

Opening those cases is a bit daunting. You have to remove screws and use a tool to carefully separate the seam from the plastic clips that snap together. Take your time taking it apart.

Here is an example video. The model is not exactly yours, but the way to get in is basically the same.

I see BAnhien beat me to the punch as usual. Oh well.
