I want to upgrade the RAM of my machine. i know it's upgradable but what I want to know is whether there's a particular model/brand of RAM that is most compatible (or gives the least trouble) with the RAM currently installed. I want to add 8GB of RAM.
I also would like to know if it's possible to add an SSD (256 GB) to my machine. And if so, then what model/brand should I go for?
Thanks

I'm going by what HP has posted in the Specs page for your model.
You can download and run this tool to see whats reported, or open the case and physically look.

If it only has one stick, you will want to match its specs for the new one.
Cas latency... CAS latency - Wikipedia
You will probably only find CAS 16 for 2400 memory and thats ok, nothing to fret over.

Hello Sumbrandr,
Adding an M.2 NVMe drive (as we are learning on this forum) can be possible. But you are best to make sure by opening the case to make sure you have an M.2 slot. Some models are different than others and have different motherboards.
HP does not disclose what each motherboard is and its features and they are not disclosing to us helpers on the forum what each has either.
Once you confirm it, you are good to go and can go with what ever brand you are partial to. If you can afford it, the Samsung Pro NVMe is fast.
For the ram, your model came with 2 sticks of 4 GB memory totalling 8 GB.
For 16 GB, replace them with a kit that includes two sticks of 8 GB DDR4-2400 memory.
I look for one with the fastest CAS latency I can find for the money.
Here is an example...
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (2 x 8G) 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 2400
Do make sure you have created your USB recovery media regardless of what you will be doing.

This link shows that my model has 1 8GB stick. In that case I can just add another 8GB stick, can't I?
And what's the deal with CAS Latency? Why is it important?
Thanks
