Hi @Rubensp,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering a persistent issue with an unknown USB device on your HP ENVY 16 laptop. Here’s a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Update USB Drivers

  • Device Manager: Open Device Manager (right-click on Start menu and select Device Manager).
  • Locate USB Controllers: Expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" section.
  • Update Driver: Right-click on each USB controller and select "Update driver." Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."

2. Uninstall and Reinstall USB Controllers

  • Device Manager: Open Device Manager.
  • Uninstall Drivers: Right-click on each USB controller and select "Uninstall device." Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the USB controllers.

3. Check for Windows Updates

  • Settings: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Check for Updates: Ensure your system is up-to-date with the latest updates.

4. Inspect USB Ports

  • Physical Check: Ensure there is no visible damage or debris in the USB ports.
  • Test Different Ports: Connect your USB devices to different ports to see if the issue is specific to a particular port.

5. Check for Hardware Issues

  • HP Support: Visit the HP Support website and use the Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for any issues with the USB ports.

6. Review Device Setup

  • Registry Check: Sometimes, registry issues can cause problems. You can check the registry settings related to USB devices. Be cautious with registry changes; it’s wise to back up the registry first.

7. System Restore

  • Restore Point: If the issue started recently, you might use System Restore to revert to a previous state when the USB ports were functioning correctly.

8. BIOS Update

  • HP Support Website: Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop model. An outdated BIOS might cause compatibility issues.
