Hello,

I got this pc for my parents (HP OMEN 17-db1025nf) with Windows 11.

I installed every updates through the windows update, including the last bios update.

Everything went well, but now there's a recurrent problem : When the pc is shutdown and the screen lid is lowered on the keyboard, each time i try to switch on, pc doesnt want to start (with the start button, up right). I need to push it a 2nd time to hear something starting (power led only blink once and  led keyboard always off). The screen is almost black, but you can see the omen logo very faintly (very low contrast, dark grey on black) and a few sec after, the windows 11 log in window (same problem, very low contrast, barely visible). When i push ctrl+alt, colors and contrast, led keyboard and power led are turning back as normal. Everything is normal after.

When i shut down the pc without lowering the lid, and if i try to swtich on, there is no problem (omen logo is white and visible, windows 11 log in is okay)

So far, i tried a lot of internet solutions : I removed every possibility in windows 11 to put the computer in sleep mode (deeper or normal), i desactivated the windows 11 fast boot, i erased the hidden protected hibernation sleep file, i checked if every graphic or other components are up to date, i did a scannow /sfc, and a lot of other things...

Could someone have a potentiel solution for my problem, please ?

Hi @Myllonn,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're facing with your HP OMEN 17-db1025nf after a BIOS update appears to be related to power state handling and display initialization, especially when the lid is closed during shutdown.

Recommended Fixes

1. Update or Reflash BIOS (Safely)

Even though you've updated the BIOS, it may help to reflash it using HP's official tool:

2. Reset BIOS Settings

  • Restart and press F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Go to Exit > Load Setup Defaults.
  • Save and exit.

This ensures no residual settings from the previous BIOS version are interfering.

3. Disable Modern Standby (if available)

Modern Standby can cause issues with lid behavior.

Steps:

  • Open Command Prompt as admin and run: powercfg /a
  • If it shows “Modern Standby,” you can disable it via the registry (advanced step, let me know if you want help).

4. Change Lid Close Behavior

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what closing the lid does.
  • Set “When I close the lid” to Do nothing for both battery and plugged in.
  • Save changes and test.

5. Update Graphics Drivers

Even if you’ve tried older versions, try a clean install:

  • Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode to remove current drivers.
  • Reinstall the latest AMD/NVIDIA drivers from HP or directly from the vendor.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi, thanks for the answer

None of the solutions worked.

-> Bios last update : no new available

-> Load bios defaults -> no change

-> Disable modern standby -> No modern standby

-> Change lid close behavior -> already modified before asking for help, disabled, no change

-> Graphic drivers updated -> already updated, but i need to remove them with ddu 1st before denying this part
