Hi, everyone,

I have an HP Victus 16 (Ryzen 7840HS  RTX 3050, purchased August 2024).
My laptop is out of warranty (Aug 2025) and I’m experiencing the following issues:

  • During use, the screen flashes or goes black, then sometimes comes back on randomly, Device apps still run in the background but screen remains completely black and keyboard backlight goes off and the keyboard itself becomes unresponsive, Though if an external mouse is used the device and be interacted with.
  • Sometimes the laptop fails to power off properly and the keyboard becomes unresponsive.
  • General instability seems related to power delivery / GPU / motherboard.

I took it to a local repair shop, and they suspect a power / motherboard / GPU issue.

I’ve heard that for some Victus 16 models, HP has known issue repair programs or goodwill repair options.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone experienced similar issues with this model?
  2. Do you know if HP offers any repair programs for this type of problem, even out of warranty?
  3. Are there any trusted repair shops in the UK / Aberystwyth area that handle this model well?

Any advice is appreciated

Hi @danielkassas,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about Display issue , don’t worry let me help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • When the issue usually occurs (e.g., during gaming, browsing, or idle)?
  • Whether the screen goes black even when connected to an external monitor?
  • If you’ve noticed any unusual fan noise, overheating, or sudden shutdowns?
  • Whether the problem started gradually or appeared suddenly?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try before committing to a repair:

  • Update BIOS & Drivers: Visit HP Support and ensure your BIOS, GPU, and chipset drivers are fully up to date. Outdated firmware can cause instability.
  • Hard Reset: Disconnect the power adapter, remove any external devices, then press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Reconnect and power on.
  • External Display Test: Connect to an external monitor. If the external display works fine when the laptop screen goes black, it may point to a display panel or cable issue rather than GPU/motherboard.
  • HP Hardware Diagnostics: Run HP’s built-in diagnostics (press F2 at startup). This can help identify failing components.
  • Windows Event Viewer: Check for critical errors logged around the time of the black screen. This may reveal GPU driver crashes or power delivery faults.

Regarding repair programs:  I’d recommend  contacting HP Support directly with your serial number to check if your unit qualifies.

As for trusted repair shops in Aberystwyth,  I’d recommend  HP Authorized Service Providers .

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
