Flickering Display

The flickering display issue you are experiencing after an automatic update could be due to outdated or incompatible drivers. Here are steps to resolve the issue:

Check for Driver Updates:

  • Windows Update: Run Windows Update to ensure that you have the latest drivers installed.
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Click Check for updates.
  • HP Support Assistant: Use HP Support Assistant to check for any updated drivers directly from HP.
    • Open HP Support Assistant from your Start Menu under "HP Help and Support".
    • Go to the "Updates" section and check for any updates.

Roll Back Drivers:

  • If the issues started after the update, consider rolling back your display drivers.
  • Device Manager:
    • Right-click on the Start Menu > select Device Manager.
    • Find Display adapters, right-click on your graphics driver, select Properties.
    • Go to the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver if available.

Adjust Display Settings:

  • Sometimes, the refresh rate can cause flickering. Adjust the refresh rate:
    • Right-click on the desktop > Select Display settings.
    • Scroll down to Advanced display settings > Display adapter properties.
    • Click on the Monitor tab and adjust the Screen refresh rate.

2. Camera Not Installed

For the issue with the camera not being detected:

Reinstall Camera Driver:

  • Go to Device Manager via right-click on the Start Menu.
  • Look under Imaging devices. If the camera is not listed, locate any Unknown Device.
  • Right-click and select Update Driver Software > Search automatically for updated driver software.

Enable Camera:

  • Ensure that the camera is enabled in the system settings:
    • Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera and ensure the camera access for the device and apps is turned on.

Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Use the built-in Windows Troubleshooter to detect camera issues.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Select Camera and run the troubleshooter.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Zoey7886,

Thank you for your response and here are the steps that i have done prior contacting you.  The Microsoft Technical Support Assisted me on all the issues but still the same issues. They tried to update all the drivers on the laptop and even asked to reset the laptop and lastly wipe out all the whole laptop.  But the issue persist.

For flickering display, here are the completed steps:

Windows Update : completed the update but still flickering.
HP Support Assistant : already updated everything but still flickering.
Roll Back Drivers : No rollback option, it is grayed-out.
Adjust Display Settings: Changed the refresh rate from 144Hz to 60Hz, it stopped flickering but it after 30 minutes it returns back but the it flickers every 1.5 seconds.

For Camera Not Installed, here are the completed steps:

Reinstall Camera Driver : there are no exclamation mark or even unknown device showing in device manager.
Enable Camera : all camera access is already turned on, still same issue
Windows Troubleshooter : it shows the same error message.

Please advise me on this since if this is a hardware issue please advise me on the hardware parts that I need to check on since my warranty is already expired and its really hard to trust a local repair shops here since they sometimes tell misleading troubleshooting steps or even unrelated parts to get more income.

Awaiting for your immediate response.

@Koolitz03, Thank you for sharing those detailed steps – I can imagine how frustrating it must be to keep seeing that flicker and have the camera still missing even after resets and updates. Let’s try a couple of deeper checks to narrow this down.

For the Flickering Display:

Since the rollback option isn’t available, try reinstalling the graphics drivers completely:

Open Device Manager → expand Display adapters.

Right-click your GPU (both Intel and NVIDIA, if listed) → Uninstall device (check “Delete the driver software for this device”).

Restart the laptop. Windows will reinstall the base driver.

Then, download the latest drivers directly from HP’s support page for your model (not just Windows Update).

Also, check if disabling adaptive brightness helps:

Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced power settings → expand Display → turn off Enable adaptive brightness

.

For the Missing Camera:

Sometimes the camera can be disabled at the firmware/BIOS level. Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly → enter BIOS Setup (F10). Under Advanced/Device Configurations, ensure the camera is enabled.

If it’s enabled and still missing from Device Manager, please run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI):

Power off the laptop.

Press Esc repeatedly while turning it on → F2 for Diagnostics.

Run a Component Test > Camera to confirm if the hardware is being detected.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

@Zoey7886, the flickering display procedure provided did not resolved the issue as well as the built-in camera issue.  Based on my research, I was thinking if there is a possibility that the LCD cable is not functioning properly.  The LCD and the camera is only LCD Cable is the only connection between the peripherals to the motherboard.

I tried to follow any steps that I can see on youtube but still no progress.  One thing that i notice when i tried to uninstall the camera software, the camera module on Device Manager is removed on the system.  Tried to use the option "scan for changes" but it did not appear.  There is no exclamation mark nor notification showing within the device manager.  Please assist on this.

Hi @Koolitz03

Thank you for your response

My colleague @zoey7886 is currently out, but don't worry – I’ll be taking over and making sure we get this sorted for you.

Flickering Display:

Check LCD Cable: The flickering could be caused by a loose or damaged cable connecting the screen to the motherboard. If you're comfortable, you can open the laptop and check the cable. If not, a repair shop can help.

External Monitor Test: Connect your laptop to an external monitor. If it doesn’t flicker, the issue is with your laptop’s display or cable.

Graphics Card Issue: If the flickering happens on both the laptop screen and an external monitor, the problem might be with the graphics card (GPU). You could try stress-testing the GPU, or it may need to be checked by a professional.

Camera Not Installed:

Check BIOS: Go into BIOS (restart laptop, press Esc repeatedly) and make sure the camera is enabled there.

Run Diagnostics: In BIOS, run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (press F2 during startup) to check if the camera is detected at a hardware level.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Garp_Senchau,

Regarding the flickering display:
1. Already checked the lcd cable, and reconnected the same to the same slots and still having flickering issue
2. Already tested external monitor, all is good in the external monitor so we eliminated the issue on the motherboard.
3. For graphics card, I already updated everything through HP and Microsoft tech support but still flickering.

On the camera, all camera options that I can find relating to activating or enabling the camera is already done. but still not working and it is even not showing up on device manager.

I

already run the HP PC HARDWARE DIAGNOSTICS for more than a day, it cannot find any issue on all hardware for more than 2 hours. Upon checking, no diagnostic for camera on the said diagnostic.

And again, I already contacted you (HP Tech Supp) and Windows Tech Supp but still having the same issue. Everything is updated and completed. but issue maintains.

I am now trying to find a part of LCD Cable, LCD and Camera module for this unit in order for me to test if the problem is the hardware.

Can you recommend me or even provide me a link for me to order those parts. I am disappointed that this happened upon updating my drivers from WINDOWS and only right after my expiration of my warranty.
