I turned off the backlight for the keyboard but the WASD keys light up whenever I pressed them. I tried everything from Light Studio to even the BIOS but the problem still persists. It is really annoying whenever I press either of the WASD keys because the backlight just pops up out of nowhere.IMG_7830.JPG

Hi @Tommy02

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining that so clearly—and I totally get how distracting it must be when those keys light up unexpectedly. The image you shared really helps illustrate the issue, and it looks like the WASD keys are reacting independently of your overall backlight settings.

Here’s what you can try to tame those rogue lights:

🎮 Steps to Disable WASD Key Lighting Behavior

Update OMEN Gaming Hub & Light Studio

  • Open the Microsoft Store and search for OMEN Gaming Hub.
  • Install or update it, then launch the app.
  • Inside the hub, go to OMEN Light Studio and check for any active lighting effects tied to key presses.
  • Disable or customize the effect so that WASD keys don’t light up on interaction.

Check Reactive Lighting Settings

  • In OMEN Light Studio, look for a setting called “Interactive” or “Reactive” lighting.
  • If enabled, this causes keys to light up when pressed—turn it off to stop the flash.

Reset Lighting Profile

  • In OMEN Gaming Hub, go to Lighting > Keyboard.
  • Click Reset to Default, then manually turn off all zones.
  • Save the profile and test the keys again.

BIOS Settings (Double Check)

  • Restart your laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Look for any keyboard lighting options and ensure they’re disabled.
  • Save and exit.

Try a Clean Boot

  • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
  • Under Services, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
  • Go to Startup tab > Open Task Manager > disable all startup items.
  • Restart and test the keys—this helps rule out third-party interference.

Let’s get those keys to chill out! 😄
