I've tried adjusting every possible setting on my MediaTek MT7922 wireless adapter, including switching between 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and tweaking various 802.11 network configurations. Despite all that, my internet speed remains frustratingly slow. Multiple restarts also didnt help. Updated to latest drivers even from the HP support website, still didn't help.

Hi @Arikarin21,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your OMEN 16 (xd0015AX) with the MediaTek MT7922 Wi-Fi adapter and the issue of consistently slow speeds despite updates and settings changes. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Reset the network adapter settings
– Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Advanced network settings → Network Reset.
– This removes old configurations that may be limiting speed.

Change the Adapter’s Power Management mode
– Open Device Manager → Network adapters → MediaTek MT7922.
– Under Power Management, uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
– This prevents the adapter from throttling under load.

Force the adapter to use Wi-Fi 6 mode
– In the MT7922 Properties → Advanced tab → set
Wireless Mode → 802.11ax
Preferred Band → 5 GHz
Channel Width → 160 MHz (if your router supports it)

Disable “Random Hardware MAC”
– Go to Settings → Network → Wi-Fi → select your network.
– Set Random hardware MAC to Off.
– Some routers slow down connection speed when MAC randomization is enabled.

Reset your router’s Wi-Fi channel
– Log in to your router → set 5 GHz channel to 36, 40, 44, or 48.
– Auto-channel sometimes picks congested DFS channels that the MT7922 handles poorly.

Update the MT7922 driver to the Microsoft-provided version
– Device Manager → MT7922 → Update driver → “Search automatically.”
– Many users report better stability with the Microsoft Windows Update driver than the vendor one.

Turn off IPv6 temporarily
– Network & Internet → Change adapter options → right-click Wi-Fi → Properties → uncheck IPv6.
– This helps if the router is giving slow DNS or packet loss on IPv6.

I hope this helps.

Hey Kenshi thanks for the reply,

I had already tried whatever you have mentioned. It didn't fix the issue.

I have however figured it out that it is something related to OMEN GAMING HUB software. When I kill the process for it, the wifi speeds returns to normal.

I do not know why and how but it does fix the issue, only problem is the gaming hub starts by itself on every powerup even if I try to disable it from startup.

I do not know what stupidity HP has done in the software!!

Hi,

Thank you for getting back to us, and great job narrowing down the cause, that’s very useful information. If the Wi-Fi speed returns to normal when the OMEN Gaming Hub background service is terminated, the issue is likely related to a network optimization module inside the software.

Let’s try a few steps to stop it from affecting your Wi-Fi performance without fully removing the app:

Turn off Network Booster inside OMEN Gaming Hub
– Open OMEN Gaming Hub
– Go to Network Booster / Optimizer
– Disable both Network prioritization and Traffic shaping
– Restart the laptop and test Wi-Fi again.

Disable OMEN Gaming Hub background services
– Press Win + R, type services.msc
– Find and double-click OMEN Gaming Hub Service or Omen Command Center Background Service
– Change Startup Type to Manual
– Click Stop, then Apply

Disable the Companion Service
– In the same services list, locate HP Omen Companion Service / Omen SDK
– Set to Manual and click Stop

Prevent auto-start from Task Scheduler
– Press Win + R, type taskschd.msc
– Go to Task Scheduler Library → HP
– Disable any OMEN Gaming Hub scheduled tasks.

After applying these steps, keep the software installed but prevent it from controlling network functions.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kenshi,
i had tried doing all those that you have mentioned but due to some reason gaming hub did always autostart on every powerup.

Now I have created a .bat script which automatically kills the gaming hub process using "taskkill" on every startup.

Now I can finally use the internet 🙂

Hi @Arikarin21,

Thank you for the update, and I’m glad you found a reliable workaround.
Your solution will definitely help others facing the same OMEN Gaming Hub background-service issue.
