Want to install RAM on my 15-BC406TX Gaming Laptop

I want to install RAM on my HP 15-BC406TX Gaming Laptop. I have heard that not all ddr4 RAMs are supported on all the devices. Which RAM should go for and install. Also the laptop comes with 8gb ram pre installed, Is it a good idea to upgrade it to 24gbs by installing another 16GB chip? Will another 16GB chip be supported or should I install (8GB+8Gb)?

Where can I find the supported and latest RAM chips?

Hi,

Max RAM for your system is 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz RAM (2x16GB) even if the service manual for some unknown reason mentions 8GB.

So, yes you can add a 16GB module for a total of 24GB. If you want the RAM to run in dual-channel mode you would need to insert two sticks of the same size.

You can insert an M2 SATA3 SSD such as the one you mentioned. However, it would be much better and faster to insert an M2 PCIe NVMe SSD such as the fastest M2 Samsung 970 Evo Plus or even the slower and much cheaper Crucial P1.

Will they not run in dual channel for the first 8GBs?

Well, it depends on what you do with the machine. In gaming dual-channel mode does not really make a difference. The same in general use. Now in editing, or encoding software or so it would make some difference.

Personally I would probably go with a 16GB stick as in the future you can replace the other 8GB module with a 16GB stick if needed.

However it is also true that the average person will never be using more than a total of 16GB of RAM.

The PCIe NVMe SSD will give a more noticeable boost than the extra RAM unless you are using "RAM hungry" software.
