Example: Pavilion Ryzen 5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a HP Pavilion Gaming Ryzen 5 laptop 3 days ago.

The following are some specs:

RAM : 8GB

HDD : 1TB

NVidia Geforce GTX 1650 (4GB)

Basic multitasking is slow and laggy. Opening programs takes a while. I've been running it almost non-stop since I got it though. Could that slow down the PC?

Once a program opens up, it runs pretty smooth. GTA V and Adobe CC 2020 products work fine.

I find the occasional lag, to the point where it takes almost 3 seconds to view the next image in photo gallery.

I'm paranoid about the hard drive. I hear a constant noise of it running, similar to an external HDD I have, occasionally. No clicks or screeches. Is that normal?

It does get pretty heated up and the fan turns on once in a while. Could this heating slow down the hard drive?

It does run heavy programs, but Windows in general, I feel is lagg-ier than my previous laptop's. I'm on Windows 10 Home 20H2.

Are new laptops generally like this? Or is there a defect with the hard drive?

TIA!

Hello there, I guess the problem is overheating. To make sure, you can use temperature softwares to check if the machine is struggling with high temperatures. Most laptop processors are not well applied with effective thermal paste leading to slow performance, noisy fans like those you are facing.

Thank you for your reply, IRadiant!

Just figured out something else too. I bought the laptop 3 days ago, and the warranty period began 2 months ago.

@Psyche70

I reviewed your post and I understand that the laptop is running slow.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

What is the product number of your computer?

Meanwhile, I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.
